What I Ate Wednesday #9
Welcome, welcome to this week's What I Ate Wednesday!!
Anyone else feeling like the weeks are just flying by?? It's absolutely crazy!! I am sipping my third coffee as I am typing this and it feels goooooood :)
Today I am in an awfully good mood, even though my day started out anything but pleasant:
my small pocket mirror broke - which can only mean I'll have bad luck for the next 7 years or 1000 years of you know what... ^^
Whateverrrrr.... Let's just start it off with coffee, shall we?

Our daily Starbucks run in Barcelona was followed by a grapefruit from the market (which I actually had before my coffee in the hotelroom if I remember correctly) and an unpictured container of yoghurt. Which unfortunately contained artificial sweetener, which we all know I am not a fan of..but I bought this multipack of 4 containers and felt like throwing them out would have been a huge waste.... so I sucked it up and just ate it :(
fresh fruit from the market:

after we packed all our belongings up and cleared the hotel room (always double checking we didn't leave anything in drawers or under the bed... I get really paranoid about this), we brought our luggage to our friend's apartment and headed for lunch to another great place my girlfriends from Cali recommended.
And like last time I could count on them and didn't get disappointed! You know that feeling when sometimes your expectations are too high for something and you end up being sad and completely crushed? Well this was definitely not the case with this restaurant!
teresa carles: recommended 100 % by Miss Vanillacocoberry, best restaurant tester on the planet^^

The food there was so fresh and incredibly tasty.
We ordered two freshly squeezed juices... mine was called "detox" or something and it had beets, apples, ginger and I don't remember what else! J ♥ also loved his, it was a mango infusion and we all know how much he loves his mangoes (well at least now you do hehe)

The salad was HUGE, even though it may not look like it and there was a lot of cheese in it!! I loved it!!

The bread was warm and soft, yet crunchy!! It was served with butter <3

After our meals we felt reenergized and ready to tackle the rest of the day!! Before we left for the airport we made sure to stop at teresa carles again (haha) because I wanted to buy another snack for takeaway as I know they usually have limited options at airports and food can be quite expensive there! I ordered another juice and a salad with roasted butternut squash, tempeh (absobloodylutely loved it!) and ultra-yummy honey mustard dressing!! I sprinkled my own grounded flaxseed on top for extra fiber <3. As soon as we got to the airport I sat down and devoured it right before we went through security. It came in a paper box which started to get really soggy (even though they packed the dressing on the side for take away) so it was definitely a good idea to eat it asap.

Once on the plane we were served dinner, which smelled surprisingly good! I wasn't all too hungry but couldn't resist!
First I had the salad with papaya slices and a couple of prawns. After that I proceeded with the main course: First I picked out the veggies and the mashed potatoes, but then I took a bite of the meatball/burger and I loved them! Really tasty!
I had two small rolls (one of them with poppy seeds of course!) on the side, which I used to dip up the sauce of my plate. My plate was clean as it could possibly be when I was done. If I could have licked it without appearing like the freak that I am, I probably would have ^^
I even ate the sugary lemon pie !!
After that I was almost uncomfortably full and in a sugar coma. But hey, you can't say no to business class dinner, right? :)

When we got home really late that night, I raided my pantry for a couple of fibre oat cookies because I could still taste the meat from dinner and I didn't like that at all before heading to bed.
Happy WIAW to all of u ♥
I'll check at your eats now,
Kissesssssss
xoxo

What We Ate Wednesday #8
----What WIAW isn't about----
Comparison - Judgement - Restriction - Guilt
----What WIAW is about----
Celebrating one of the glorious things we all have in common: We all eat!
- courtesy of Jen
Some of you guys were asking me on last week's WIAW how it's possible to make my coffee so incredibly foamy. The secret is about to be revealed: I just put some milk (preferably vanilla soy) on the stove top, heat it up and then use an electric milk frother and the result is pure foamy goodness. When I'm away from home I have to look for other options regarding my daily caffeine dose. Starbucks always comes in handy (recycled picture alert!)
SO glad that they have multiple of them in Barcelona! We even got a map at the bus tour we did that showed all the different starbucks locations hahaha
a quick stop for tapas during our hop on-hop off bus tour:
At one restaurant in Barcelona ("Navarra" cough cough), which is located near placa de catalunya, the waiter brought out bread, an unpeeled garlic clove and a tomatoe. To be honest, we didn't know what to do with it, it was only a couple of days later on that I found out that this is apparently a typical Catalonian dish: You rub the garlic clove on the bread, squeeze the tomatoe until the pulp comes out and then rub it on the bread also. And then you eat it.
We didn't eat it.
I ordered a grilled vegetable salad with goat cheese and seeds - a recommendation of the chef according to the menu.
When they brought it out (after a waiting time of >30 min or so!), I was greatly disappointed.
It was tiny, cost a fortune and it tasted disgusting. The "grilled vegetable" salad was literally drenched in oil, the goat cheese was yucky and I was absolutely miserable :(
That's really the worst thing to possibly happen: when you are starving at a restaurant, then order something that sounds delicious, get overly excited about it but then it turns out to be one of the worst things you've ever eaten. Fail!
Of course I finished it off though, because I was just so hungry!! City trips are exhausting!!!!
J ♥ ordered this and he loved it:
PAELLA!
Then we went to La Boqueria and tried some fresh fruit juices. I liked the coconut ones so much!! We had blackberry-coconut and papaya-coconut.
After I gulped down mine I wanted another one right away:
pure coconut this time!

more caffeine to keep us going:
When you're in a foreign country and you don't know any good places to eat, it can be quite difficult at times to find a restaurant you really like. Especially when most of the tourist places are really crowded and overpriced like in Barcelona. Plus when it's a city trip, you always want to be flexible and don't waste your time with making any reservations...
Luckily I met up an old friend from California there and she gave me the best restaurant recommendations!
One of them was Princesa 23 at the metro stop Jaume.
We went there and were completely blown away.
They have the best tapas!!!
We tried other tapa places before (e.g. see above), but didn't like any of them all that much, because they were just completely overpriced and you didn't get full or satisfied!! If you order 3 tapas for 15 euros and you're still hungry, it's just a joke!
But at Princesa23, they brought out huuuuge tapas, incredibly delicious and satisfying!
I ordered the nachos with spicy guacamole and J ♥ decided to go for the cheese-covered nachos with jalapenos and guacamole also. He shared some of the cheesy ones with me :)
They were sooo good!

Our main course:
That's it for today, hope you guys liked our Wednesday eats this week!
I really wish I could post a lot more, but I am so incredibly busy these days, I am about to lose my mind to be honest. I am slacking on my workouts and on my diet, I work long hours, have tons of lectures and seminaries to attend and I should really be studying my butt off right now for my upcoming huge exam!!
And on top of it all I am really sick since yesterday morning. Which means I can't do anything except lay in bed the entire day with my two hot water bottles and a wet cloth on my forehead. Which only makes everything worse :(
Sincerely,
a very desperate Doris

Barcelona

Mhhhmmm...fruit juices!!!
I always knew I loved coconut shakes, but I might have discovered a new love for coconut-blackberry as well as coconut-papaya juice! The picture above shows a large selection of juices you can buy off of the many many street vendors at La Boqueria in Barcelona, Spain.
At 2 for 2 euros they are very cheap and taste amazingly refreshing.
But before I get in the middle of things, I'd like to give thanks to my friend Sara for nominating me for the Liebster Blog award. I felt really honored, thanks so much girl <3
5 quick facts I'd like to share about myself:
1. I love coconut
2. I love coconut
3. I love coconut
4. I love massages
5. I'm really slacking on my workouts lately
All of the above are true, I would have liked to come up with something extremely original and funny, but I am really pressed for time these days, so this will have to do for now.
Below you find a quick selection of my first impressions of Barcelona
hope u like it
♥
